Konoka's flight - well, floating - worked very well here, to the point she could steer herself with but a thought.

'Down' was essentially what she thought it should be, even if she changed her mind. Focusing on the Star Gazer's presence would help to steady her, so long as she didn't try to float right out into the void.

If she tried, she could even hear the 'song' of the void; a high-pitched whistling sort of sound, that turned into soft overlapping voices if she paid it too much attention.

Fortunately for her ability to pay attention, there was a 'village' of sorts not far down the trail. There looked to be people, only some of whom could be mistaken for human, milling around working on something, singing their own (much more mundane... and less high-pitched) tune.
